Going to the shelter is the best and worst part of rescue, I think.  It's really great being able to pull animals from death row into a foster home, where they will be safe and happy and go to a great forever home.  I LOVE being able to pull several dogs and cats at a time!

It's also incredibly sad, because we leave so many behind to face an uncertain fate.

This past Saturday, it was especially difficult.  Seeing kittens and puppies in the shelter always breaks my heart.  At the beginning of their life, they've already been abandoned, neglected or worse, mistreated.  There were SO many puppies and kittens there.  And we had to leave them behind, because there are never enough foster homes.

Even worse, at the moment, we don't have any foster homes that will take on puppies.

Fostering is so very rewarding.  Yes, it's hard when they are adopted.  But you know when they're adopted, that ARC has done everything in their power to make sure they're going to a great forever home.  When you become a foster for ARC, we pay for all of the medical procedures, and provide you monthly flea and heartworm preventative.  We provide collars and leashes for the dogs, and toys for the dogs and cats.  All we ask if that you provide a safe and loving home and food for your foster.
